There is still time to register for Pave the Way, a bike ride fundraiser to resurface a portion of the Raccoon River Valley Trail, this Saturday, Sept. 27.
The ride will be depart from the trailhead in Jefferson starting at 9:30 am with a turnaround at Cooper. Proceeds from the ride will go toward resurfacing the trail between Yale and Winkleman Switch, a 14-mile section first paved in 1998 that is now due for repair.
The Greene and Guthrie County Conservation Departments have secured $1.2 million in federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funds, as well as a $500,000 Legacy grant from Grow Greene County. That brings the project about halfway to the estimated total funding needed.
